LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - USC junior Alyssa Dávila's early goal stood tall for the Trojans as the No. 9 USC women's soccer team wrapped up their regular season at McAlister Field with a 1-0 win over visiting Oregon on Sunday afternoon. It was Dávila's fourth game-winning goal this season and her 11th in her career, pushing the junior up to stand at No. 3 all-time in game-winners at USC. In order to secure that winner, however, the Trojan defense put together a powerful effort in the back to hold the Ducks silent and net USC's ninth shutout of the year. The 1-0 win also gave the USC seniors a winning note on which to mark their final game at McAlister Field, as the Trojans now turn to a string of road games to close out the regular season. USC improves to 12-5-0 overall and 4-2 in Pac-10 play with the win, while Oregon goes to 8-7-1, 0-5.

Seniors Meagan Holmes, Brittany Massro, Kristin Olsen, Jamie Petrossi and Marihelen Tomer were honored before the game, which marked the group's final match at McAlister Field. In whole, the five seniors have appeared in 275 games since coming to Troy. Today, the defensive tandem of Holmes and goalkeeper Olsen helped secure an important shutout against the Ducks, while Tomer and Petrossi caused trouble for the Oregon up top. Credited with the shutout win was Olsen, whose career shutout count grew to 27 with the decision.

Early pressure from the Trojans saw success when Alyssa Dávila blasted USC ahead in the eighth minute. Davila carried the ball toward goal and went for it, driving a shot from about 20 yards out to the top left of the goal and out of reach of Oregon goalkeeper Jessie Proulx. Up 1-0, the Women of Troy had to generate a combined effort to work out today's win. Holmes had a shot at padding the score later in the first half with a hard-driven header off a Brittany Kerridge corner kick, but the ball went wide. Claire Schloemer put a stop to a late Oregon corner kick with a clearance and then later a block on a long shot attempt by the Ducks. That helped keep USC on top 1-0 going into halftime, bringing up another half of balanced effort for the Trojans.

There was plenty of opening excitement for the Trojans as they generated some early looks in the second half. Megan Ohai busted loose on the left, burning her defender and sending in a pass for Samantha Johnson. Johnson put a good foot on it for a low shot attempt, but Proulx made a great diving save on the try. That brought up another Kerridge corner kick. Johnson got a head on it, and Ohai took a swing from close range, but Proulx was right there for the stop. Petrossi would get in on the action later in the game to bring extra energy to the Trojan front lines as USC pushed to keep the ball away from the Ducks and hold tight to that 1-0 edge. All-around efforts from the Trojan back line of Holmes, Karter Haug, Chelsea Buehning and Claire Schloemer kept Oregon off balance on its attacks to help secure USC's ninth shutout of the year. Senior backup goalkeeper Brittany Massro had a hand in two of those shutouts this season.

Next up for the Women of Troy is a trip across town to face rival UCLA in a 7 p.m. game on Friday (Oct. 30) in Westwood.
