Oct. 26, 2009
The UCLA track and field teams have announced the competition schedule for the 2010 schedule. The Bruins will play host to three home meets during the year - Cal/Nevada Championships, Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invite and the annual dual with USC.
The indoor season will start in February for both teams as the women head to the New Balance Invitational in New York and the men head to Flagstaff for the NAU Team Challenge the first weekend in February. Both teams will compete in Nampa, ID at the Boise State Team Invitational February 12th and 13th, while some athletes will head to Seattle for the Husky Classic that same weekend.
The indoor conference meet, the MPSF Championships, will be contested in Seattle February 26th-27th where both teams will compete. The team will then send athletes to three last chance meets in Ames, IA, Seattle, WA and South Bend, IN for the final chance to achieve NCAA Indoor marks. The NCAA Indoor meet will wrap up the season March 12th-13th in Fayetteville, AR.
The Bruins will begin the outdoor season in Fullerton at the Ben Brown Invitational March 5th-6th. Some athletes will head to Palo Alto March 26th-27th for the Stanford Invitational, while most of the team will stay home as UCLA hosts the Cal/Nevada Championships March 27th-28th.
The men will then send their top athletes to the prestigious Texas Relay March 31st-April 3. Those not heading to the Relays will join the women's team in San Luis Obispo for the Cal Poly Invite on April 3rd.
The Bruins will then play host to the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational April 8th-10th for the second home meet of the season.
On April 17th, the women will head east to Gainsville, FL for the Tom Jones Memorial Classic (honoring former Bruin Tom Jones), while the men will head back to Eugene for a third straight dual with the Ducks. Those athletes not heading to Florida or Oregon will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays April 17th and 18th. The UCSD Triton Invite is also on the schedule for the weekend of April 23rd.
The big matchup with USC will be held on May 1st. In previous years, the hammer competition has been held on the Friday before the main meet, but this year, all events will be held on Saturday.
The post-season begins May 7th and 8th in Berkeley as California plays host to the Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships. They will also host the main conference meet May 15th-16th. The new regional system will see the Bruins head to Austin, TX May 27th-29th as athletes will look to qualify to Nationals. The NCAA Outdoor meet will wrap up the season June 9th-12th in Eugene, OR.
