Q&A With the Cal Women's Soccer Seniors: Lisa Kevorkian

Oct. 27, 2009

BERKELEY - This weekend's games against Arizona (Friday, Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m.) and Arizona State (Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.) are the final home games of the 2009 regular season and the final home games for the squad's six seniors. This week, CalBears.com will be running a Q&A with each of the team's six seniors - goalkeeper Rosie Aguilera, defender Brianna Bak, forward Torrey Delaplane, forward Lisa Kevorkian, midfielder Katie Oakes and goalkeeper Gina Pellegrini. CalBears.com had a chance to discuss the seniors' years in Berkeley and what being a part of the Cal women's soccer program has meant to them, and today's participant is Lisa Kevorkian.

Redshirt junior Lisa Kevorkian, who is earning a degree in mass communications, is in her fourth year as a member of the Golden Bear women's soccer team. This season, Kevorkian has three game-winning goals and five scores and two assists for a team-second 12 points. In 2008, she returned from a knee injury with a vengeance to lead the team with three game-winning goals and was second with 13 points, six goals and 16 shots on goal. She was named to the 2008 Pac-10 Conference's All-Academic Second Team and was a co-recipient of the 2007 Golden Bear Award.

CalBears.com: What is your best Cal story or favorite Cal experience?
Lisa Kevorkian:
That's like asking 'What's your favorite song?' There's no way I could choose just one. I had a lot of great times with the old Pink House girls though.

CalBears.com: What will you miss most about Cal?
The fact that all my best friends live within a mile radius of me.

CalBears.com: What are your career plans and what are you plans after graduation?
No clue about the career yet, but I've got my heart set on Boston.

CalBears.com: Has Cal lived up to or has it been different/better than the expectations you had of it as a freshman?
It's been everything I could have wanted and more.

CalBears.com: What is your favorite place to eat or go in Berkeley?
The Big C has helped me through some good and times. I love going up there, looking out over the bay and pondering life. It's breathtaking.

CalBears.com: What advice would you give to freshmen?
You can sleep when you're dead. Don't let the world pass you by while you're unconscious...these are the best four years of your life and they're going to whiz by!

CalBears.com: What made you choose Cal?
The atmosphere, the views, and most importantly, the camaraderie of the soccer team. These girls will be bridesmaids in each other's weddings, take care of each other's kids, and more. Those kinds of bonds are hard to come by.

CalBears.com: Do you have a favorite, goal or play from your years at Cal?
Yes! During our game versus Stanford during freshman year. The score was tied 0-0, and in the 89th minute of the game, I headed a ball that hit the crossbar, then Brianna Bak was there to score! The one-two punch from wee freshmen to beat our rivals. It was awesome.

CalBears.com: What are your other favorite Cal sports? Do you attend a lot of that sports' games?
Shout out to field hockey! Especially Pink House hockey girls, past and present.
