San Diego State's Reza Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Oct. 27, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that SAN DIEGO STATE junior forward Raymundo Reza has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 19-25.
Last weekend, Reza led the Aztecs to a pair of Pac-10 road victories that catapulted them from sixth place to second in the Pac-10 standings. In Friday’s 2-1 overtime victory over No. 21 STANFORD, he had one shot in 60 minutes. The overtime game marked a school-record ninth overtime game of the season and sixth-straight game that has gone into extra minutes. Closing out the weekend with a 2-0 win over No. 20 CALIFORNIA, the Denver, Colo., native scored two goals less than seven minutes a part, to lift the Aztecs. For Reza, it was his second multi-goal game of the season and third of his career.
The back-to-back wins wrapped up a six-match streak against nationally ranked opponents that saw the Aztecs go 3-2-1. This year, San Diego State is 4-2-1 against ranked opponents, and is an impressive 3-0-1 against top-15 programs.
Reza also received national recognition this week as he was honored by two websites for his play. He was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopdrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
This is the second-career weekly honor for Reza, and San Diego State’s 12th all-time Player of the Week.
