Pac-10 Men's Basketball Media Day: Stanford

Oct. 29, 2009

Stanford Head Coach Johnny Dawkins

Opening Statement
“For us, we are at an exciting time of the year.  We have lost three seniors that were an important part of our team.  Our younger players are going to get some playing time. We have a player who gained a lot of experience last season in Landry Fields. I am excited about his play. He is our captain and I think he can be one of the best players in the Conference.  So for us, this is a different season. We are going to have young players that are ready to go out there for us. We feel with that knowledge that they will continue to grow and we are excited about this season and where we can take things.”

What impact do you expect from Gabriel Harris
“Gabriel Harris is a freshman combo guard for us. He is getting better, practicing hard. He is growing, we are excited. We think he can have an impact, he just needs to keep growing in the right direction.”

On the point guard play
“We will have to do it by committee. We don’t have a true point guard in our program right now. We will have to make adjustments in our offense to make that work.”

On the injury to freshman forward Andy Brown
“Andy was a kid that we expected to contribute.  My heart goes out to him and his family with this knee injury.  He really loves our game. He will work really hard on coming back and getting healthy.”

On the leadership of senior guard Landry Fields
“Overall, he is a very good competitor.  I could talk about his versatility, but he competes everyday, every play.  He has a great work ethic. He gets after it everyday.”

On where the scoring options will come from
“We think Landry [Fields] will be able to contribute in scoring.  Drew Shiller can contribute shooting the ball. Jeremy Green is great too. We have guys that will be able to shoot the basketball for us.”
