Anzures Leads Bruin Men To 5th-Place Finish At Pac-10 Cross Country Championships

Marco Anzures led the Bruin men to a fifth-place team finish at the 2009 Pac-10 Cross Country Championships in Long Beach on Friday as the senior finished ninth overall, earning second-team All-Pac-10 honors.

Anzures finished ninth in a time of 23:24.50 as UCLA's No. 1 runner. Fellow senior Marlon Patterson was just two spots shy of earning second-team honors as well as he placed 16th in a time of 23:38.80 (top 14 earn conference honors). Teammate Alex Crabill, also a senior, finished 24th overall as the No. 3 runner for the Bruins, crossing the finish line in 23:55.88.

Freshman Zack Torres was the No. 4 runner with his 36th-place run of 24:23.80, while sophomore David McDonald was the fifth finisher for the Bruins, placing 43rd in a time of 24:54.53.

Stanford won the team title with 28 points. The Bruins were just three points shy of fourth-place with 122 points as Oregon (45), ASU (88) and Washington (119) also finished ahead of UCLA.

The Bruins will next head to the NCAA West Regional in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
