Murakami Paces Bruins To 7th-Place Finish At Pac-10 Cross Country Championships

Oct. 30, 2009

Shannon Murakami earned the first All-Conference honor of her career on Friday as she led the Bruin women to a seventh-place finish at the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships in Long Beach. The junior continued her streak as UCLA's No. 1 runner, finishing 13th in a time of 20:24.54 to earn second-team All-Pac-10 accolades.

Senior Rosa Magana had a big race, moving into UCLA's No. 2 spot as she placed 45th in a time of 21:26.82. Sophomore Katja Goldring finished just behind Magana in 46th-place in a time of 21:29.90.

Junior Kelcie Wiemann (61st, 21:55.28) and sophomore Sadee Martinez (62nd, 21:55.46) also finished within one spot of each other to round out UCLA's top five runners.

The Bruins were seventh as a team (207 pts.), showing much improvement from last year's 10th-place finish at the conference meet. Washington won the team title for the second consecutive year, while Oregon and Arizona State rounded out the top three teams.

UCLA will next head to the NCAA West Regional where qualifying for the National Championships will take place.
