TUCSON, Ariz. – Lamont Jones scored 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and Jamelle Horne added 17 points and nine rebounds in the Arizona men’s basketball Red-Blue scrimmage in McKale Center Sunday afternoon.

In what was the public’s first opportunity to see the new era of Arizona basketball under head coach Sean Miller, the coaching staff deviated from a traditional collegiate “game” format and instead played four 8 minute periods, subbing players in-and-out interchangeably.

In the first half of play, the Blue team jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind a Kyle Fogg three-point play and a Lamont Jones lay in.

Jones increased the Blue team’s lead to 13 after his three-pointer made things 25-12.  The Red team, behind Horne and Kevin Parrom, would bounce back though, scoring six straight points to cut the Blue’s lead to six, 28-22.

Solomon Hill found Kyryl Natyazhko for an easy layup on a nice drive and kick to close the first half and give the Blue team a 33-24 advantage.

After halftime, the team began the second half with the score set back to zero and several players switching sides to give the scrimmage a different look.

Sophomore Brendon Lavender started things off in the second session by hitting a 3 followed a Horne tip-in for the Red team.  At the other end, D.J. Shumpert was on the receiving side of a Garland Judkins dish to give the Blue team an easy layup.  In the third period, 22 of the 29 total points scored were converted in the paint.

In the fourth period, Lavender caught fire and hit two additional three-pointers to put his Red team ahead.  Judkins, Fogg and Derrick Willaims would be the main stalwarts for the Blue team in the fourth, having a hand in 18 points for Blue down the stretch.

Natyazhko finished the afternoon with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Williams, Hill and Parrom all scored 13 points, and appeared on both Red and Blue teams. Fogg filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and two 3’s as he played exclusively for the Blue team.

Senior Nic Wise was held out of today’s intra-squad scrimmage to rest an ankle injury which was suffered in practice last week.

The Wildcats return to action with a home exhibition contest against Augustana College on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST. For tickets, fans can call (520) 621-CATS or log on to where they can utilize the print@home feature.
