Alvarez Leads Huskies After Day One in Hawai'i

KAHUKU, Hawai'i - Anya Alvarez shot a 2-over-par 74 in round one action of the Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invitational to lead the Huskies, and the team shot a collective 24-over 312 on Monday.

Alvarez is tied for 23rd with 11 other competitors and the team is 16th out of 18 squads.

The Huskies started their round from the back 9 of the George Fazio designed course and could never get on track as a group. Alvarez started out strong with a birdie on No. 10, but bogeyed three of the next five holes. She would birdie two holes on her second nine, but also had two bogeys to end her day at 2-over.

Seniors Christina Yoon and Molly Aronsson each shot the second-best score amongst Huskies at +7 (79). They are tied for 73rd.

Sadena Parks shot an 8-over 80 and Karinn Dickinson was 9-over 81.

UC-Davis leads the tournament at 7-under par 281, thanks in large part to tournament leader Alice Kim's 5-under 67.

Washington will tee off for Tuesday's second round starting on the back nine at 7:20 Hawai'i time.
