Junior Lizette Salas and freshman Cyna Rodriguez tied for sixth after the first round to lead the No. 6 USC women's golf team at the Turtle Bay Invitational in Kahuku, Hawaii, on Monday (Nov. 2).

The Trojans combined for a 3-over 291, good for fourth place, 10 strokes behind first-place UC Davis. San Jose State is second (288) while Cal is third (290). USC is playing without All-American Jennifer Song for the second straight event. The sophomore is coming off a weekend in which she tied for 65th in the LPGA's Hana Bank Kolon Championship in South Korea after receiving an amateur wild card. USC is also without senior Belen Mozo, who is nursing an injury.

Salas was 2-under on the front 9 but fell back to 1-over after 16 holes. However, she birdied 17 and 18 to finish with a 71 on the par 72 course. Rodriguez was par at the midway point and finished 1-under on the back 9 for her 71.

Senior Stefanie Endstrasser turned in a solid round at 2-over 74 to tie for 23rd. She got hot midway through her round, going 3-under between the 4th and 11th holes, helping to overcome other hiccups along the way. Senior Caroline Kim tied for 35th at 3-over 75 while sophomore Inah Park tied for 79th at 8-over 80.

Action continues Tuesday and Wednesday.
