Hello Cardinal Fans!

I hope all of you are getting along swimmingly! Here on the Farm things aren't too shabby. I don't know about you, but I thought last week went by lightening fast. Of course, for me it started with my early-Monday-morning physical therapy. (I am slowly, but surely recovering from a dislocated hip.) Coming on to the team injured has been a very interesting experience. I am learning a ton by watching my teammates and I couldn't be at a better place as far as care goes. I regularly get to use all kinds of frightfully high-tech equipment like our underwater and gravity-defying treadmills (yes, they are both as cool as they sound!); I also spend countless hours with my stellar physical therapist Erin and, of course, our team trainer, the one and only Mr. Eitan Gelber (He makes being injured almost bearable! Which is saying a lot!).

So, the gravity-defying treadmill is called the Alter-G and it is what Astronauts use. I have to put on these funny spandex shorts and zip myself into a bubble that fills up with air. The air takes away my weight so I can run, and get aerobic exercise without putting too much stress on my pitiful hip. It is pretty darn cool. Being a Stanford athlete means having all of that at my disposal, and I can't tell you how much my hip has improved since I have been here. I am one lucky lady!

Anyway, back to my week. A lot of the team had midterms last week; so many of us could be found in our favorite lush study room in the library with notebooks, textbooks, and laptops strewn across tables. Of course, all that studying works up quite the appetite, so some us weren't opposed to treating ourselves to a little late-night frozen yogurt ;). After Wednesday, midterms were pretty much over, which was a relief, but now between class, practice, physical therapy, and a field trip (My Weather and Storms class took a field trip to the weather station!) I had to figure out what to be for Halloween!

Our team dresses in costume for practice in honor of the holiday, and it was a riot! Everyone got so into it and we had a fair amount of laughs. A notable costume would be Janet's: she dressed up as She-Wolf and seeing her smash balls (as my mum would say) in costume was thoroughly entertaining! After taking pictures and recording videos (which can be found on our facebook page) we got to work practicing. Slowly, layers of costume were stripped off as practice became a little too intense to keep a tutu and WWF mask on. (Oh, I ended up dressing as Eve, which if-I-may-say-so-myself was quite a hit.)

When Friday finally rolled around, we were ready to face-off with the LA teams. After a solid four-set win over USC, we lost a heart breaking five-setter to UCLA after a remarkable comeback. Unfortunately, losses happen, and our team is strong enough to learn from them. Playing in the Pac-10 is so much fun because every team is good enough to beat the next one. We just have to stay on our toes and work with even more focus, and we have all week in practice! Please tune in this weekend as we go up to Washington to record some more W's!
