Meet Brittney Belshe

Nov. 5, 2009

Oregon State is a family affair for senior defensive specialist Brittney Belshe. Following in the footsteps of her Aunt (former OSU volleyball player Amy Sanders) and her Uncle, (former OSU football and baseball player Scott Sanders) Brittney has become part of the Oregon State Athletics family. However, Corvallis was not the first stop for the Lake Tahoe, Calif. native. Her family relocated to Roseburg, Ore. during her senior year of high school, and Brittney went on to star at Mt. Hood Community College before redshirting her junior season at Oregon State. Now, in her final year Brittney has become one of the most competitive players on the team. The coaches rave about her ability to be coached and commitment to the team.

What helped in your decision to come to Oregon State?

'A lot of my family has come to OSU, my Uncle and my Aunt both. So I've kind of been a Beaver for a long time. I'm from Lake Tahoe, and I always wanted to come to school here, and when we ended up moving my senior year it ended up opening a lot of doors for me.'

What is the biggest difference between playing at Mt. Hood CC to playing at OSU?

'The game is completely different. The speed is different, the size is different. Everything is a lot different. It took a lot of adjusting and getting used to. I was an outside hitter at Mt. Hood, I'd been an outside hitter my whole life, and when I came here they changed me to being a DS/libero, because I'm too short to play front row. I was one of the big girls there, and I came here, and I was like `I'm tiny!''

What is your favorite place to eat in Corvallis?

'Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi bar down on Third Street!'

What are your plans for after graduation?

'I am a business-marketing major, and I am hoping to get a job with a sports apparel company in marketing. I will be done in the winter, and I just got a coaching job with a club in town.'

Do you have any favorite classes you've taken at OSU?

I'm taking Native American Flute right now with Rachel (Rourke) and we are having a lot of fun! It's a fun class, and really funny.'

Do you have any talents most might not know about?

'I wake board and snowboard. I grew up doing that my whole life.'

Would you rather spend a day on the lake or on the slopes?

'On the lake. I love wake boarding, its my favorite!'

What is the number one played song on your itunes?

'I'm gonna say that new Rihanna and Jay-Z song...Kanye is in it...Run This Town! I listen to it before every game!'

What are some of your favorite movies?

'Top Gun is one of my favorites, Jerry McGuire. Haha, Tom Cruise I guess. There are so many. Oh, Jurassic Park, it's kind of corny, but I love it! Any shark movie, I really like shark movies, Jaws, Deep Blue Sea. I watch Shark week, I'm kind of a freak!'

What was your first job?

'My Dad used to be a captain on a parasail boat in Tahoe, so I used to be his little deckhand, and he would pay me to keep the boat clean.'
