Nov. 7, 2009
LOS ANGELES - California freshman Kelsey Heiken placed fourth in the one-meter springboard final on Saturday at the Trojan Diving Invitational at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium. Heiken posted a score of 253.75 in the final after finishing in second place in the preliminary round with a score of 246.85. Freshman teammate Rachel Becker posted a score of 199.20 in the prelim but did not advance to the final.
USC's Victoria Ishimatsu won the one-meter title (310.55).
Heiken finished eighth in the meet's three-meter springboard final on Friday, Nov. 6, one day after she won the three-meter event in Cal's dual-meet win over Fresno State in Berkeley.
'Kelsey again had a great week vs. Fresno State and then here,' Cal diving coach Ben Herdt said. 'She qualified second out of prelims. That was really good. It was great experience for both the girls. This was really impressive stuff from Kelsey. She's starting to put things together. She has an incredible ability to jump. She's showing the other Pac-10 teams that she's ready to compete.
'This will set Kelsey up pretty well heading into the Texas meet.'
The Cal divers return to action when the Bears compete at the Texas Invitational on Dec. 3 in Austin, Texas.
