Nov. 10, 2009

SAN MARTIN, Calif. - Stanford fired a 10-under team score of 350 today to move into first place at the Gifford Intercollegiate Championship being held at the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif.

Stanford, ranked second nationally in the latest GolfStat poll, will need to fend off top-ranked Oklahoma State and Duke for the team title, as the Cowboys and Blue Devils are tied for second just one stroke behind the Cardinal heading into tomorrow's final round.

Host-school UCLA is five shots back at 709.

Stanford was paced today by junior Sihwan Kim and sophomore David Chung. Kim shot his second straight four-under round of 68, collecting birdies on the final three holes. He is currently tied for third place with Colorado's Justin Bardgett.

Chung made a strong move up the leaderboard today, finishing with a four-under 68 after carding a 73 yesterday. He is tied for 13th place heading into the final 18 holes tomorrow. Like Kim, Chung got hot late in the round, collecting birdies on holes 15, 16 and 17.

Both players trail front runner Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State, who shot a seven-under 65 today.

Freshmen Andre De Decker and Andrew Yun are tied for 19th after both players turned in rounds of 71 today.

Steve Ziegler finds himself tied for 28 (143) after shooting an even par round of 72 this morning.

Graham Brockington, playing as an individual, is tied for 70th (79-71-150) while freshman Steve Kearney is in 87th place (78-79-157).

The Gifford Intercollegiate concludes with final round action tomorrow at CordeValle.
