Game to Sell Out

Nov. 20, 2009

TUCSON--The UA's nationally televised football game Saturday night against Oregon is close to a sellout, officials said, with several dozen remaining seats and any returns from UO to go on sale tomorrow at Arizona Stadium.

The stadium ticket office, situated underneath the east stands at East Sixth Street and North Cherry Avenue, will open at 1 p.m.

The capacity crowd of more than 57,000 will be UA's first this year, eclipsing the season high of 53,479 against Stanford on Oct. 17.

The UA had a pair of sellouts last year, against USC and Arizona State.

'We're really thrilled to be able to present a full house for the cameras,' said James Francis, UA associate athletics director for marketing. The game will be an ESPN on ABC split-national telecast (KGUN-9 in Tucson) reaching some 58 percent of the country, following some day-long attention focused on Tucson because of ESPN's College GameDay broadcast from the UA Mall.

ESPN goes on the air with a view of the Tucson set for its 7 a.m. (MST) SportsCenter broadcast, and then GameDay runs from 8 to 10 a.m. with noted college football observers Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard, plus assorted remote and live guests.

The game in Arizona Stadium kicks off at 6:12 p.m. Both Arizona (6-3, 4-2 in the Pac-10) and Oregon (8-2, 6-1) control their own destiny in the Pac-10 race, meaning a win-out season earns the Pac-10 title and BCS bowl berth. The Ducks have Oregon State remaining on their schedule after this one, with UA still facing trips to Arizona State and USC.
