No. 15 USC Sweeps No. 18 Oregon In Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore outside hitter Alex Jupiter (Hermosa Beach/Redondo Union HS) registered 22 kills, 12 digs and four blocks Friday while hitting .514 (22-3-37) as the No. 15 USC Women of Troy swept the No. 18 Oregon Ducks, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19), in Pac-10 Conference action. USC (18-9, 7-8) hit .361 as a team in the match and had an 85% sideout percentage in the final set.

Sophomore setter Kendall Bateman, who leads the nation in assists per set, generated the pace for the Trojans' offense with 40 assists, five digs and three block assists. Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Williams had eight kills to go with seven blocks (one solo, six assisted) while hitting .467 (8-1-15) while senior All-American Jessica Gysin added eight kills and eight blocks.

Katherine Fischer and Heather Meyers had 11 kills each for Oregon (16-9, 6-9), but Meyers had 11 hitting errors on the night.

Jupiter started a key run in the first set at 17-17 as USC, who had not won in Eugene since 2006, scored four straight for the eventual win. Williams and Jupiter stuffed a Meyers block in the second set to make it 13-10 and would close out with the 12-8 run. Gysin's kill broke a 14-14 tie in the third and USC was able to get to 20 points first at 20-16 to finish the sweep of the Ducks.

USC travels to Oregon State tomorrow for a 7 p.m. match in the final Pac-10 road match of the season for the Trojans.
