Three Stanford Wrestlers Win Titles At Fullerton Open

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Stanford wrestling team took home three individual titles at the Fullerton Open, Saturday, at Titan Gym in Fullerton, Calif. Stanford's trio of NCAA qualifiers, redshirt juniors Lucas Espericueta and Zack Giesen and redshirt sophomore Nick Amuchastegui, all went undefeated at the tournament.

It was the second straight year that Giesen claimed the 184-pound title at the Fullerton Open. The Grant Pass, Ore., native was 4-0 on the day, including a tech fall win (17-2) over Stephan Hampton of UC Davis. Espericueta won six consecutive bouts to capture the 157-pound title, while Amuchastegui posted a 4-0 record to win the 165-pound title, his second career tournament victory.

True freshman Ryan Mango was the runner-up at 125 pounds. The St. Louis, Mo., native won his first two bouts with major decisions before falling in the championship, 7-5, to Cal State Fullerton's Andre Gonzalez.

Redshirt junior Justin Paulsen placed third at the tournament at 133 pounds. He earned a tech fall and a major decision on the way to a 5-1 record on the day.

Up next, Stanford returns to the Bay Area for two pre-Thanksgiving duals versus Menlo College and San Francisco State, Wednesday, Nov. 25 in San Francisco.
