UCLA Rowing Announces Eight Signees for 2010-11

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA rowing program has signed eight high school rowers to National Letters of Intent, head coach Amy Fuller Kearney announced this week. The group of eight student-athletes will enroll at UCLA in the fall of 2010.

'Our program is very excited about this recruiting class,' Fuller Kearney said. 'Our coaching staff worked hard to put this class together, and we look forward to these young women becoming Bruins next fall. They have a strong desire to help our program grow, and they are thrilled to join the UCLA community.'

The group of seven signees includes five high school rowers from California, one from Connecticut, one from New Jersey and one from Pennsylvania.

The UCLA rowing program has concluded its fall practice, finishing the fall season with encouraging results at the Head of the Marina and the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. UCLA kicks off its spring campaign on March 6, hosting Loyola Marymount in Marina del Rey, Calif.

Has rowed in Los Gatos Rowing Club's top open weight and lightweight crews...won the lightweight eight event at the 2009 USRowing Youth National Championships...was in the Los Gatos Rowing Club's eight at this year's Head of the Charles Regatta...is an honor student at St. Francis High School (Mountain View, Calif.).

Competing for So No Rowing Club after having rowed for Maritime...began rowing at Saugatuck Rowing Club...helped lead Maritime to a third-place finish at the 2009 USRowing Youth National Championships...guided Maritime to victories in all five head races this fall at the Head of the Charles, Head of the Schuykill and Newport Autumn Rowing Festival...also played soccer, basketball and lacrosse at Branford High School.
