O'Hara, Press, Named Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

Dec. 2, 2009

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Stanford forwards Kelley O'Hara and Christen Press are among 15 women's soccer players named as semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy, awarded to college soccer's top player by the Missouri Athletic Club.

The Cardinal teammates have combined for 45 goals, 28 assists, and 118 points. They are the top scoring duo in the country and are 1-2 on Stanford single-season scoring list.

O'Hara holds the school season record for goals (25) and points (63). Press is close behind (20 goals, 55 points), but recently broke the school season record for assists (15).

This is the second semifinal selection for O'Hara, a senior, and first for Press, a junior. Press was not on the original Hermann watch list, but had such a strong season that she could not be ignored.

The list will be narrowed to three on Dec. 11, and the winner -- through a coaches' vote -- will be announced Jan. 8 in St. Louis.

O'Hara and Press are in College Station for the College Cup. The Cardinal plays UCLA on Friday in the semifinals, to be shown live on ESPN2, ESPNU and on-line on ESPN360.com.

Stanford players had been named semifinalists four times previously: Marisa Abegg (2008), O'Hara (2007), Rachel Buehler (2006) and Nicole Barnhart (2004).
