Former Sun Devil Matt Cercone Passes Away

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State family passes along its thoughts and sympathy to the family of former Sun Devil football player Matt Cercone, who passed away at the age of 33 on Friday, November 27.

Cercone was a two-year letterman at ASU in 1997 and 1998, totaling 18 receptions for 201 yards and three touchdowns as a tight end. He went on to play briefly in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, seeing action in five games from 2000-2002.

Cercone is survived by his parents, Mike and Nancy; one sister, Bronwyn Cercone of Bakersfield, Calif.; grandmothers Jane Churchwell of Bakersfield and Ila Tofsly of San Diego; daughter Brooklyn Cercone of Phoenix; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
