TUCSON, Ariz. - Freshman guard Davellyn Whyte scored a game-high 19 points to lead host Arizona to a 84-57 non-conference win over Nevada, Friday evening in McKale Center.

Arizona scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed, forcing 28 turnovers to tally 36 points for its most lopsided win on the young season.

After claiming a 32-24 halftime advantage, the Wildcats scored the first bucket of the second half and never led by less than 11 points the rest of the way. The game got out of hand through the middle stages of the second half as the Wildcats used a 14-1 run to stretch a 16-point lead into a 65-36 bulge with 8:11 to play.

The comfortable cushion allowed head coach Niya Butts to substitute freely, giving post players Jennifer Kioa and Amanda Pierson extended minutes. The duo responded by combining for 22 points and 7 rebounds with each tallying a season-high in points (12 for Kioa, 10 for Pierson) and rebounds for Kioa with six.

Arizona finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field (31-of-61), registering 50 of its points in the paint and getting out on the fast break for 12 of those tallies. The Wildcats also showed a marked improvement at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-23 attempts (.826) after carrying a 63.4 percent mark into the contest.

All-American Ify Ibekwe matched Kioa with 12 points while also adding five steals, five blocked shots, four rebounds and three assists. Soana Lucet and Brooke Jackson each added nine points as all nine Arizona players scored at least three points.

Shavon Moore tallied 17 points to go along with 7 rebounds for Nevada (5-3). Johnna Ward added 10 points while Kayla Williams grabbed eight rebounds.

Arizona (5-1) is back home in McKale Center on Wednesday, December 9 when New Mexico comes to town with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
