Head Coach Joanne Boyle

'I think it was a really hard-fought game. I thought the kids came out, except the first five minutes of the second half, and played really hard. It really came down to freethrows. That is what cost us the game. When we have been winning games by a lot, our freethrow shooting did not effect us. But now that we are playing close games, championship teams always close out, especially on a home floor. We did not do that.'

'I think the freethrows and the high turnovers, having both of those together cost us the game. If we make our freethrows, maybe the turnovers don't affect us as much. But we had them both tonight.'

'During our run, we had a lot of energy. Great defense got us some tips and steals. A lot of aggressiveness going to the basket. Getting to the freethrow line. At 13 minutes in the second half, we were in the bonus, so we were just trying to run stuff just to get to the basket. They were doing it, but we just weren't capitalizing.'

'We killed them on the boards. It was frustrating because we had control. We didn't take care of business. No disappointment in terms of energy and effort and game planning. You gotta make freethrows in your own gym.'

'It is the same speech as last year about needing to finish, just new kids around to hear it. But the new kids are holding their own, too. Some of our veterans need to hear that lessen, too.'

'It was a pretty stagnant first. They pressure so much, if you can just spread the floor and get some screens going, which we were trying to do, and get to the basket. We were running some stuff where we kept running screens since they were eventually going to foul us. Three four passes. After they started backing off of that, we were like 'let's just get to the basket.' We did a better job with that tonight.'

On the play of her young guards

'Layshia (Clarendon) is clicking now. She's just a scorer. She is not afraid of it. She just wants the ball in her hands. She takes good shots. She finally got in a little bit of a rhythm tonight. Eliza (Pierre) is going to get to the hole or do something defensively. She is not an outside shooter, so that is something she is going to have to work on. But her speed, her speed is so disruptive. That is what she brings to the floor. Sometimes it hurts us offensively, but defensively she can get in there and rebound. Look at the hustle plays at the end with her and Layshia. They were just getting them. They were outworking them (Texas A&M). We can use them to capitalize on second chance points.'

On playing her third top-10 team in three weeks

'We talked about it. If you were with the great God of scheduling, as a young team, you would play one of those. You'd play one (ranked) between ten and 20. You'd play one in the twenties. We weren't allowed to do that, so you just have to play what it is. So it puts pressure on us. Now they have to decide, after playing the best teams in the country, how are you going to play teams that are not ranked? Are you going to beat them by thirty or scrap it out and win by five. Now you have to make a statement in a different way. Now we don't have another opportunity to play an Ohio State until we face the Stanfords of the world. Until then, how are you going to make your statement? That is just ownership of where we are. Those three teams cannot do anything but prepare us.'

Senior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson

On her frustrations

'I think I am frustrated with myself more than anything. My team looks to me to do certain things, and I didn't make freethrows tonight. To me, that is frustrating.'

'I knew the defense was going to be focused on me alot, so I started the game dishing off to DeNesha. Later on, once I started to get the (open) shots, I just gotta finish.'

Freshman forward DeNesha Stallworth

On what she was thinking when Cal went on their late run

'I thought we had the game, but, like coach said, it all came down to freethrows.'
