Former NFL All-Pro David Fulcher Named Walter Camp Alumni Award Recipient

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Former NFL All-Pro defensive back David Fulcher (ArizonaState University) is the recipient of the 2009 Walter Camp 'Alumni Award.' Fulcherjoins a distinguished list of former 'Alumni Award' winners, including AlanPage (Notre Dame), Archie Griffin (Ohio State), Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh),Herschel Walker (Georgia) and last year's recipient Tim Brown (Notre Dame).
The Walter Camp 'Alumni of the Year' award is bestowed on a worthyindividual who has distinguished himself in the pursuit of excellence as anathlete, in his personal career and in doing good works for others. Hemust be an individual who has exhibited dedication and good moral conductin achieving success. He must be a compassionate and unselfish person whocontributes his time and assistance in helping to encourage and comfortfellow human beings less talented and less fortunate than himself. He mustbe an individual who takes pride in having been a Walter Camp All-American.

A native of Los Angeles, CA, Fulcher was a standout collegian at ArizonaState University and was a member of the 1985 Walter Camp All-America team.Selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 1986 NFLDraft, Fulcher went on to play eight professional seasons (7 with theBengals and 1 with the Los Angeles Raiders).
Considered one of the game's hardest-hitting strong safeties, Fulcher was athree-time All-Pro selection (1988, 1989 and 1990) and was the 1989 NFLDefensive Back of the Year. His 31 career interceptions rank third on theBengals' all-time list.
Fulcher currently resides in Cincinnati, OH with his wife Judy and twochildren (Kayla and David). He remains active in many charitableorganizations and serves as an area radio personality.
In addition to Fulcher, the Foundation will honor NFL Hall-of-Famer JohnElway (Stanford), former NFL and ABC broadcast personality Robin Roberts(Southeastern Louisiana) with major awards - along with the 2009 WalterCamp Player of the Year and members of the All-America team - at theorganization's national awards banquet on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at theYale University Commons in New Haven

Walter Camp, 'The Father of American Football,' first selected anAll-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete andfootball coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, setplays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction ofplay to eleven men per side.
