Wrestling Ranked 24th in NWCA/USA Today Poll

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team broke into the NWCA USA Today Division I Team Coaches Poll, tied for 24th with 23 points, announced Tuesday.


The Beavers are ranked 21st in this week’s Intermat Division I Team Rankings.


Five Oregon State wrestlers are also ranked in the InterMat Individual Rankings with sophomore Kelly Kubec (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and freshman RJ Pena (Salem, Ore.) leading the way with 16th place rankings at 133 and 149 pounds. Senior Keegan Davis (Salem, Ore.) and sophomore Chad Hanke (Dayton, Ore.) are both ranked 17th at 157 and 197 pounds. And redshirt sophomore Jason Lara (Midway City, Calif.) is 19th at 125 pounds.

The Beavers are coming off of an eighth place finish of 42 teams at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Oregon State had the best finish of any unranked team in the tournament. Hanke had the top individual finish, placing fourth, while Kubec finished in fifth place. Pena and sophomore heavyweight Clayton Jack (Vacaville, Calif.) both recorded seventh place finishes.


Oregon State heads to Fargo, N.D., to compete against North Dakota State, Northern Illinois and Minnesota State Moorhead in the Dakota Duals on Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m. PT.
