Mike Nixon Earns Honorable Mention For 2009 Wooden Cup

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior linebacker Mike Nixon has been eanred an Honorable Mention for the 2009 Wooden Cup. The Wooden Citizenship Cup is an annual award presented to the most outstanding role models among college and professional athletes. Unique in its inclusion of athletes in all collegiate and professional sports, the Cup is fast becoming one of the most prestigious awards in all of sports. Recipients are recognized for their exemplary character both on and off the field.

Nixon (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the Sun Devils in tackles for the second straight season, totaling 73 with six for loss. He also added three interceptions, four pass break-ups and three forced fumbles. Earlier this year Nixon earned ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District VIII honors for the third straight year, the first Sun Devil to ever earn three First Team selections. The team captain was also named a First Team Academic All-American and was named First Team Academic All-Pac-10 for the third straight year.

Nixon was one of nine football student-athletes up for the award, and the only one from the Pac-10 Conference. He was one of four nominees from the Pac-10 in any sport.
