Rourke Concludes Career with All-America Status
Dec. 16, 2009
Lexington, Ky. – Senior Rachel Rourke (Queensland, Australia) added another first for the Oregon State volleyball program earning All-America status, announced Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Rourke was named to the second team after earning the program’s first AVCA All-Pacific Region nod, announced last week. She joins 13 other student-athletes on the second team, including seven other Pac-10 opponents.
The 6-5 outside hitter was named a 2008 Under Armour/Volleyball Magazine All-American, being named to the honorable mention list. The All-America honor was the first ever for a volleyball player in school history. She also picked up 2008 AVCA All-Pacific Region Honorable Mention status.
A two-time All-Pac-10 selection, she finished her career with 1,920 kills, easily breaking the school record set in 1994 by Shelly Smith. Her 531 kills this season ranks fourth all-time, and she holds the single season record for kills per set (4.83) and points per set (5.47). She also holds the career record for kills per set, averaging 4.52. She was an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore and an All-Pac-10 Freshman Team honoree in 2006.
