UCLA (5-3) will square off against Texas Tech (8-1) on Friday in Pauley Pavilion at 7:05 p.m. It will be the first home game for the Bruins since a Nov. 25 date against Princeton.

UCLA bounced back from a 12-day exam break with a 61-49 win at UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday. Texas Tech has won its last seven games after a 91-53 setback to Tennessee on Nov. 17, but will not have played since a Dec. 8 victory over Lamar. The Bruins added sophomore guard/forward Jasmine Dixon to the active roster in the win at UCSB. The former McDonald's All-American from Long Beach Poly HS transferred to UCLA from Rutgers after the first academic term last year. Dixon, who led the Bruins with 19 points against the Gauchos, had her eligibility restored after Fall term finals.

Friday's game against Texas Tech is Family 4-Pack Nite (4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas for $44).In addition, the Old Skool Crew, seen at many LA Sparks games, will perform at halftime of the Bruin-Lady Raider contest on Friday. The First 250 fans at the game will take home a UCLA Holiday Ornament.

Texas Tech finished 16-15 last season and tied for seventh in the Big 12 Conference. The Lady Raiders have posted an 8-1 record, with all eight wins coming on their home court. The lone loss came to Tennessee on a neutral floor. This will be TTU's first true road game of the season and its first game after a 10-day break for exams.

Texas Tech has won all five previous meetings in the series. Tech captured last season's game, 72-62, in Lubbock, TX. The teams have met twice before in Pauley. TTU won 95-80 in Nov. 1996, despite a then-Bruin freshman school record 32 points from Maylana Martin, and 58-54 in Dec. 1985.

Six-three sophomore center Kierra Mallard leads Tech in scoring with a 15.6 average. Senior forward Ashlee Roberson tops the Lady Raiders on the boards with an 8.8 mark.UCLA has a 22-24 record all-time against teams now comprising the Big 12 Conference.St. Mary's owns a 8-4 record with a game to be played at Northern Colorado (Dec. 19). Six-four junior forward Louella Tomlinson tops the Gaels in scoring (16.6) and rebounding (9.9).

The Bruin team is listed in the top-50 of the NCAA national rankings (12/13) in six categories --- 15th in scoring defense (53.0), 27th in rebound margin (+8.1), 30th in three-pt. fg % (38.0%), 41st in Assist/Turnover ratio (0.94), 45th in fg % defense (35.4%), 49th in scoring margin (+13.0).Senior guard Erica Tukiainen began the week fourth in the country in three-point shooting % (.60.6%) and 32nd in three-point shots made/g (2.9). Freshman forward Markel Walker was 47th in rebounding with a 9.4/g mark (she is 73rd nationally in steals, 2.6/g). Freshman guard Mariah Williams is listed 76th in assist / turnover ratio (1.75).

The Bruins have opened the season by holding all eight opponents to 61 points or less. The last time a UCLA team has opened the season with a stingier defense was in the 1974-75 campaign during which it held the first 18 opponents to 61 points or less. That is also the last time a Bruin team has held a team to 61 points or less over any eight-game stretch. The Bruins have also held the last 13 opponents to less than 50% shooting from the field.

In coach Caldwell's two seasons at helm, her Bruin teams have held 20 opponents to 60 points or less and eight opponents to 50 points or less.

UC Santa Barbara RecaP (Game 8)Transfer Jasmine Dixon led the Bruins with 19 points and added 10 rebounds in her first action of the season as the Bruins topped UCSB 61-49. Doreena Campbell scored seven of the Bruins' nine points in a decisive 9-2 run which helped give UCLA a 55-45 lead with two minutes to play. Campbell finished with 12 points and Darxia Morris added 17. Markel Walker tied Dixon for team-high rebounding honors with 10.

HOME SWEET HOMEUnder second-year head coach Nikki Caldwell, the Bruins have posted a 15-3 record (.833) on their home court of Pauley Pavilion. UCLA has won its last three home games.
