WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that USC senior guard Mike Gerrity has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player for Dec. 21-27.

Gerrity, who hails from Yorba Linda, Calif., earned MVP honors at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, after leading the Trojans to wins over Western Michigan, Saint Mary’s and No. 20 UNLV en route to the title. For the weekend, Gerrity averaged 15.7 points, 2.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals, while shooting 18-for-29 (62 percent) from the floor including 4-for-6 from behind the arc.

In the win over Western Michigan, Gerrity helped erase a 9-point deficit by scoring 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half. With the game tied at 50, Gerrity scored on a three-point play with 1:28 remaining and then added a free throw to seal the game for USC. Against Saint Mary’s, he hit a three-pointer with 3:42 left that put a stop to the Gales rally which saw USC’s lead go from 17 down to four. Gerrity scored 17 points and pulled down four rebounds. In the title game against UNLV, he routinely broke the Rebels press. He finished the contest with 13 points, three assists and no turnovers.
