Washington's Whitcomb Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Dec. 28, 2009

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON senior guard/forward Sami Whitcomb was named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 22-27, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

In the Huskies' only game last week, Sami Whitcomb (Ventura, Calif.) turned a close game into a comfortable win at Western Michigan, scoring 11-consecutive points in the second half, including an eight-point burst in a 30-second span. Whitcomb finished with a team-high 20 points, going 7-for-15 (.467) from the floor and knocking down both three-point attempts in the 71-63 road victory. She added six rebounds, three steals and a couple of assists.

Whitcomb is the first Husky to win the weekly honor since the 2007-08 campaign, when she garnered the recognition on March 3. It is the 28th all-time Pac-10 Player of the Week selection for Washington and Whitcomb's second of her career.
