Men's Basketball Hosts Seattle on Wednesday

Jan. 4, 2010

The Oregon State men’s basketball returns to action this week as the Beavers step out of Pac-10 Conference play for their final non-conference contest of the season when they host Seattle on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The game will be televised by FSN NW and can be heard over the Beaver Sports Radio Network with Mike Parker providing the call.

Oregon State enters with a mark of 6-7 on the season after the Beavers dropped a hard-fought 65-60 decision at Washington State on Saturday. Daniel Deane led Oregon State with 17 points as Calvin Haynes added 15 points for the Beavers in the loss.

Forward Seth Tarver continues to lead the Oregon State attack, averaging 12.5 points per game while Calvin Haynes ranks second on the squad at 12.0 points per contest. Tarver has led the defensive effort as well as the senior leads the Pac-10 and ranks third in the NCAA at 3.0 steals per contest.

In the game against the Cougars, Oregon State held Klay Thompson, the leading scorer in the Pac-10 Conference, to a season-low seven points. That kind of defensive effort will be needed again on Wednesday as Seattle’s Charles Garcia enters the game averaging 22.6 points per contest. The Redhawks enter the week with a mark of 6-9 on the season after a 92-71 loss at Harvard.

Oregon State leads the all-time series, 15-4, after capturing a 71-67 win in Gill Coliseum last season. The Beavers have won three straight in the series as Seattle’s last victory came during the 1976-77 seaso.
