Following a one-point loss to UCLA last Wednesday, California concludes its five-game homestand against USC on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears fell to the Bruins, 76-75, after UCLA's Michael Roll made the game-winning shot with 1.9 seconds left in overtime.
Senior forward Theo Robertson tied his career high with 24 points, and recorded his 1,000th career point (1,017). He also snared seven rebounds and shot 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Robertson joins senior guards Jerome Randle and Patrick Christopher as the trio of career 1,000-point scorers on the team, marking the second time in school history this has happened (1987 - Kevin Johnson, David Butler, Chris Washington).
Randle now has 1,450 career points and currently stands in eighth on the school's all-time scoring list. Already Cal's career free throw leader, Randle's current season average of 92.3 (60-65) from the charity stripe is the best single-season percentage in school history, and currently ranks ninth in the nation.
The team leader in steals with 24, Christopher also posted 14 points and nine rebounds against the Bruins. He is currently second on the team in scoring with 16.1 ppg and third on the team in rebounding at 5.6 rpg. He is in 14th on the school's career scoring list with 1,379 points.
Scoring has not been a problem for the Bears this season. Cal has scored at least 70 points in all but one contest and has topped 80 points seven times, with two 90-point games. Cal's season scoring average of 80.0 ppg ranks second all-time in the history of the program.
Cal has outrebounded 10 of its 14 opponents. The Bears outrebounded UC Santa Barbara (45-25), Iowa State (51-32,), Princeton (37-20), Utah Valley (38-24) and Pacific (45-30). Cal is currently averaging 39.1 rpg and sporting a rebounding margin of +6.8 that ranks second all-time in school history. The Bears have only been outrebounded four times thus far this season, with one of those occurrences only by a difference of two (38-36, Nov. 24 vs. Jacksonville) and one was only by a single rebound (35-34, Jan. 6 vs. UCLA).
