Cardinal Quartet Sweep Past Pacific

STANFORD, Calif.--  Eugene Godsoe, John Criste, Chad La Tourette and Alex Coville each won two individual events and No. 2-ranked Stanford Men's Swimming (3-0) easily swept past the University of the Pacific 156.5 to 91.5. For the Cardinal men, it was their 14th-straight dual victory dating back to January, 2008.

Godsoe was a part of four wins overall, as the two-time national swimmer of the week won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.33 and the 100 butterfly with a mark of 49.05. He was also a part of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:23.73) along with Jake Allen, Geoff Cheah and Andrew Saeta, and the 400 medley relay squad (3:18.93) along with Criste, Bollier and Coville.

La Tourette won both distance events, pacing the field in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:19.99 and the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:30.25. Last month, La Tourette set the American record in the shortcourse 800-meter event in England.

Criste took home wins in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, as the first of three Cardinal in the shorter event with a leading mark of 57.69 and with the top mark of 2:04.52 in the 200-yard event.

Coville won the 50, ahead of teammates David Dunford and Aaron Wayne with a time of 20.29, and won the 100 with a time of  44.98.

The Cardinal are next in action when they host Arizona at Stanford on January 22 in a doubleheader with the women's team.
