Trojans Take Down Gauchos

Final Stats

USC kicked off the second half of the men's and women's swim season with a pair of wins over host UC Santa Barbara on Saturday (Jan. 9).

The women's squad downed the Gauchos, 143-111, while the men won 139-123. The USC women improved to 9-1, the men to 8-1.

The meet marked the key additions of swimmers Presley Bard for the women's team and Richard Charlesworth for the men's squad. Bard is an All-American transfer from Indiana while Charlesworth was a 2008 Olympian for Great Britain.

Both posted wins in their first official meets with the Trojans. Bard won the 100y back in 54.99 and was also second in the 50y free (23.72). Charlesworth won the 500y (4:33.09) and 1000y free (9:21.62).

Sophomore Katinka Hosszu won the 200y fly (2:00.22), the 200y back (2:02.33) and the 400y IM (4:20.83).

Freshman Haley Anderson won the 1000y free in 9:55.65 and also clocked the top time in the 500y free (4:56.94).

Junior Lyndsay DePaul won the 200y free (1:49.08) and turned in a 54.75 in the 100y fly and sophomore Ania Kowalczyk won the 100y breast (1:03.95).

Freshman Clement Lefert won the 100y (49.42) and 200y fly (1:49.41) while freshman Alex Lendrum won the 100y (50.50) and 200y back (1:49.38).

Sophomore Patrick White won the 200y free (1:40.21) and was second in the 500y free (4:35.15) and senior James Martin won the 400y IM (4:01.41).
