Tennis Teams Open Up 2010 at Various Tournaments

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA tennis teams kick off the 2010 season this week, with players traveling to several tournaments throughout the West Coast beginning on Friday.

Most of the UCLA men will be in Thousand Oaks, Calif. to take part in the Sherwood Collegiate Cup. Haythem Abid, Matt Brooklyn, Holden Seguso, Alex Brigham, Maxime Tabatruong, Kallim Stewart, Ahmed Ismail and Evan Lee will all be in action at the tournament, which in addition to UCLA features players from Stanford, USC and Baylor. The National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. also begins on Friday at La Quinta. Amit Inbar, Nick Meister and Jeff Gast will be representing UCLA at that event. Matches from the NCTC will be streamed live over the internet on the Fox College Sports Website. Note: There is a fee to follow the action.

The UCLA women will split up between the NCTC in Palm Springs and the Freeman Memorial Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. this weeekend. Associate head coach Rance Brown will accompany Maya Johansson, Pamela Montez, Carling Seguso and Stephanie Hoffpauir to Las Vegas. Head coach Stella Sampras Webster and volunteer assistant Bill Zaima will be traveling with Noelle Hickey, Yasmin Schnack, Andrea Remynse and Nina Pantic to Palm Springs.
