Buffs Compete At All-Comers Meet

            U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - University of Colorado junior Alex Von Hagen won the long jump with a personal record at the Air Force Academy All-Comers Meet on Friday night to kick off the 2010 season for the Buffaloes.

 

            Von Hagen recorded a leap of 21 feet, 6 ? inches for his first victory of the season.  Von Hagen was one of three Buffs to earn a victory in the jumps events. Freshmen Jason DeWitt and Holly Odneal each tied for first in the high jump at their first collegiate meet. DeWitt cleared 6-6 3/4 while Odneal reached a height of 5-5.

 

            Sophomore Brianne Beemer took second in the 400-meter run. She completed the race with a personal best of 57.93 seconds. Beemer also took fifth in the long jump after recording a mark of 16-8 ?.  

 

            CU's women had a strong showing in the shot put as two placed in the top three. Senior Chynna McCall was second overall with a PR of 41-0 ?. Freshman Molly Potter also had a personal best with a throw of 40-06 that was good for third place. Junior Trey Mullen was the top thrower for the Buffs in the weight throw. His best throw was 51-10 ? was a third-place performance.

 

            Sophomore A.J. Whitaker moved up on CU's all-time performers list in the 60-meter dash for eighth overall. He clocked a time of 6.81 to better his PR from 6.86 during his freshman campaign. Whitaker placed third in the race behind CU's Jeremy Dodson (6.68) who only has outdoor eligibility remaining.

 

            In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Javen Correia placed third, running a time of 8.55. Freshman Kyle MacIntosh made his collegiate debut in the 400-meters in the black and gold. He also earned a third-place finish, crossing the finish in 49.46.

 

            The men's 4x440-yard relay raced to a second-place finish. The relay, which consisted of MacIntosh, Jordan Aguilar, Matthew McCathran and Adrian Gomez, finished with a time of 3:21.50, just .27 seconds off the winning time (3:21.23) from Northern Colorado's top relay.

 

            Colorado's assistant coaches got into action at the meet. Sprint and hurdles coach Drew Morano won the 400 in 48.15 and volunteer assistant Emily Pearson had a pair of first-place finishes as well. She tied with Odneal for first in the high jump (5-5) and won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.70.     

            Colorado will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, as it will host the Potts Indoor Invitational at Balch Fieldhouse. The meet starts at 9 a.m. on Friday and is set for a 10 a.m. start on Saturday.
