Gold Team Captures Dramatic Challenge Relay

Jan. 15, 2010

The USC track and field team held its annual Challenge Relays today (Jan. 15) at Loker Stadium and the Gold team under the direction of coach John Henry Johnson prevailed with a dramatic comeback.

Gold anchor runner Andreas Bezamat-Homer came from way behind on the final lap to secure the victory. He overtook the Red team runner down the stretch and just before the finish line the White team's runner (who shall remain anonymous) stumbled under the oncoming pressure of Bezamat-Homer and as he fell to the ground, Bezamat-Homer crossed the line triumphantly.

The annual Challenge Relays are an extended relay of 15 legs of 400m with the entire team regardless of specialty being divided up equally into four teams by the coaching staff.

The winning Gold team consisted of Greg Woodburn, Katherine Ellis, Kira Davis-Quarrie, Shalina Clarke, Donovan Chin, Jason Price, Duane Walker, Putchong Dispanurat, Dalilah Muhammad, Kris Washington, Allison Rojewski, Farzad Bozorgzad, Terence Abram, Brendan Ames and Bezamat-Homer.

The Most Outstanding female runner was Myra Hasson (53.6) and the Most Outstanding male performer was Joey Hughes (45.9).

The White team managed by coach Mike Pullins took second, the Red team led by coach Tom Walsh took third and fourth place went to the Black team, under the direction of coaches Tina Fernandes and Kate Carlson.
