Gymcats fall to Stanford

PALO ALTO, California – The Arizona Gymcats fell to host No. 12 Stanford in the Cardinal’s first home meet of the season 196.025 to 194.675. Despite the lost, Arizona improved its score from the previous meet by over two points.
Arizona proved once again to shine on vault, falling behind the Cardinal by a mere two tenths with a season high total score of 49.075. Sophomore Deanna Graham led the Gymcats on the event, earning a score 9.85. The other Gymcat vaulters also proved themselves, with Senior Sarah Tomcyzk earning a 9.825, and Sophomore Talyn Curry tying her career high vault score of 9.775. Both Freshmen in the lineup earned career highs as well, with Molly Quirk posting a 9.7, and Aubree Cristello scoring a 9.825.
There were also some shining moments on bars, as Sarah Tomcyzk earned a new career high of 9.875 allowing her to take first place on the event. Aubree Cristello earned a career high as well with a 9.825, and Junior Miranda Russell came out of the gates running, debuting on bars and scoring a 9.8.
Sophomore Britnie Jones had another amazing week on beam, earning a 9.825 as well as first place on the event.
The Gymcats had four all-around performances this week, including Freshmen Aubree Cristello and Molly Quirk, in addition to Senior Sarah Tomcyzk and Sophomore Deanna Graham. Graham earned a career high score of 39.025, allowing her to take third place in the meet.
For the Cardinal, Senior Carly Jeniga took first all-around with a score of 39.325, and took first on floor with a 9.875.
From here, the Gymcats travel to Tempe, Arizona to compete against the Arizona State Sundevils on Sunday, January 24.
