California Finishes Third at Second Home Meet

The California Golden Bears scored a 190.375 in their second home meet of the season. UCLA won the tri-meet with a 194.425. San Jose State followed with a 191.950. Sophia Hocini was the top all-arounder for the Bears, finishing second.
Senior Sophia Hocini had another strong meet. Hocini earned a 9.800 on the floor, good for a second place finish, the highest ranking for any Bear in any of the events. Hocini had the top score for the Bears in three of the events. In addition to the floor, Hocini's 9.725 on the vault and her 9.750 on the bars also paced the Bears. Freshman Nicolette Lew led the Bears on the beam with a 9.725.
The Bears top score of the night was on the beam. They posted a 48.000 team score, just 0.050 behind San Jose State in the event. The floor had some of Cal's strongest performances. Junior Avery Gee and freshman Mariesah Pierce each scored a 9.675 for their performances.
Cal travels to Arizona next week, taking on the Wildcats in Tucson next Friday, Jan. 29. The meet begins at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
