Cardinal Women Swim Past Wildcats

STANFORD, Calif.-- No. 4-ranked Stanford women's swimming (5-0, 1-0 Pac-10) won the final 11 events and 12 overall to defeat visiting No. 2-ranked Arizona (6-1, 3-1 Pac-10) 173-125 on Friday afternoon.
Arizona won four of the first five events to lead 55-38, before the Cardinal's run was paced by a team effort of two wins a piece in: diving by Carmen Stellar; the 200 back and 200 IM by Julia Smit; and the 100 and 200 fly by Elaine Breeden.
Kate Dwelley also took home victories in the 50 and 200 freestyle, as well as combining with Sam Woodward Andi Murez and Smit to close out the meet with the top time in the 400 freestyle relay. Kelsey Ditto also made an impact, winning the 500 freestyle, while Murez took home the individual title in the 100 free.
Stanford went ahead for good following the seventh event, as the Cardinal took the top three spots in the 50, paced by Dwelley and followed by Betsy Webb and Woodward. The Cardinal were then off swimming, as Murez won the 100, Stellar won the three-meter and Smit put the Cardinal up 90-79 with a win in the 200 backstroke.
The Cardinal women host Arizona State on Saturday in a doubleheader with the men's team beginning at 11 a.m.
