LA JOLLA, Calif. - Alex Prugh shot a 1-under 71 in Friday's second round of the Farmers Insurance Open and is tied for 15th. Overall, Prugh is at 6-under 138 at Torrey Pines and easily made the cut.
Playing on the tougher south course, Prugh jumped out of the gate in great shape with a birdie on No. 1 and later on No. 6 and No. 7. On the par-4 No. 1 he was able to nestle his second shot from 157 yards out to within six feet of the cup, where he putted out for birdie. The par-5 sixth hole saw him chip his third shot from off the green to within 4 feet of target and tap in for birdie. Prugh got down to 8-under overall on No. 7 with a seven-foot birdie putt.
On the back nine, things got a little shakier for Prugh as he bogeyed the 221-yard par-3 11th hole and paf-4 15th hole. He missed par putts on both from within 10 feet.
Prugh is five strokes off leaders' D.A. Points and Ryuji Imada, who are 11-under 133 for the tournament. Some notables around Prugh on the leaderboard are Phil Mickelson who is one stroke better than him, K.J. Choi who is also at 6-under and Ernie Els who is one stroke behind Prugh.
Prugh will tee off on the South Course at 9:05 a.m. and is paired with Choi and Tom Gillis.
