CORVALLIS - The 13th ranked men's golf team travels to the islands to compete at the 20th annual Mauna Lani Invitational Collegiate Golf Tournament hosted by Hawai'i-Hilo. The three-day event, which Feb. 3-5, presents stiff competition as the Beavers face 11 of the top 20 programs in the nation and includes five of the top seven individual golfers.

'It's a great tournament for us to start the spring season on,' head coach Brian Watts said. 'We've got some great competition that will really get us going. It's nice for us to have a few days of practice to get used to the grass differences and the wind.'

The course will be the Mauna Lani Resort North Course, which in true Hawaiian fashion, is built on a lava bed. The course is incredibly scenic, with the second and ninth hole playing right up to the white sand beaches. However scenic the course may be, it is known for its unpredictable and powerful wind gusts.

The field includes some of the best golf programs in the country and some of the toughest competition the Beavers will face all year. The list of the field, rankings in parentheses: Oklahoma State (1), Stanford (2), Florida State (4), Arizona State (6), Texas Christian (7), Texas (8), Washington (12), Oregon State (13), UCLA (14), Georgia Tech (17), Texas Tech (19), Southern California (21), Rhode Island, UC Davis, Colorado, San Jose State, Oregon, San Francisco.

Also joining the division I schools are NCAA division II schools Sonoma State and Cal State - East Bay.

Competition begins with a 12:30 p.m. (Hawaiian Time) shotgun start on Wednesday, and 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on Thursday and Friday morning. Live stats will be available online. Golf Stat
