Men's Golf in Ninth at the Mauna Lani Invitational

KOHALA COAST, Hawaii - The No. 13 men's golf team is in ninth place at 9-over par through the first round of play at the 20th Annual Mauna Lani Invitational in Kohala Coast, Hawaii.
'When we started the round there was little, if any wind,' Oregon State men's golf head coach Brian Watts said. 'Then all of a sudden the Kona winds came in, and totally changed the golf course.'
Seniors Diego Velasquez and Mike Barry along with sophomore Jonnie Motomochi lead the Beavers at 3-over for the tournament each posting scores of 75.Velasquez came into the event ranked No. 2 in the country.
UCLA leads the tournament with an even score of 288. UCLA's lead is three strokes ahead of University of Oregon and University of Washington.
The unpredictable weather patterns played a large role in the Beavers play late in the day.
'We've got 36 holes left. We can get right back in the tournament with a couple of guys shooting good numbers tomorrow.' Watts said.
