California-Arizona State Match Rescheduled for Feb. 22

Feb. 4, 2010

BERKELEY - The No. 3-ranked California women's tennis team (4-0) has rescheduled its non-conference match against No. 26 Arizona State (3-1) due to forecasted unfavorable weather conditions this weekend, head coach Amanda Augustus announced Thursday, Feb. 4. The Golden Bears and the Sun Devils will meet in a 1:30 p.m. PT match on Monday, Feb. 22, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Because the meeting is the first of two scheduled duals this season, its result will not count towards Pac-10 standings.

Cal's lineup boasts three ranked singles players including No. 2-ranked sophomore Jana Juricova. Junior Marina Cossou holds the No. 10 ranking and junior Mari Andersson is ranked No. 83. The Bears do not have a ranked doubles team. A trio of junior Sun Devils hold rankings with Kelcy McKenna at No. 58 in singles and Micaela Hein at No. 68. Hein and Ashlee Brown are No. 38 as a doubles team.

The Bears will turn their attention to preparing for the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which take place at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., Feb. 12-15. Cal earned a berth among the 16 teams in the tournament by defeating Utah and Sacramento State in last weekend's ITA Kick-Off Weekend event. The Bears reached the indoor championship semifinal last year before bowing out to Georgia, 4-2.
