Stellar's Run in the Platform Ends in the Semifinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- Stanford senior Carmen Stellar reached the semifinals of the platform competition, finishing 15th amongst the 18 competitors with a score of 239.80 at the U.S. Winter Diving Championships on Thursday.
Stellar's best dive of the day was her second to last, as she scored 56.00 on an armstand back, two somersault, 1 1/2 twist. Olympic teenager Haley Ishimatsu won the semifinals with a score of 337.75.
Stellar advanced to the night time competition following a 15th place showing in the quarterfinals with a score of 241.20. Stellar's best dive in the quarters was 51.20 on an inward, 3 1/2 somersault tuck. Stellar had qualified for the event after winning the preliminaries two days ago.
Fellow Cardinal Brent Eichenseer did not advance past the quarterfinals of the three-meter following a 20th place finish (339.55). Eichenseer's best score came on his third dive, a back 2 1/2 somersault pike, when he scored 67.50 points.
On Friday, Stellar, along with alum Cassidy Krug and incoming freshman, Stephanie Phipps, will compete in the three-meter. A complete schedule is below.
The top 18 divers in the three-meter and platform quarterfinals advance to the semifinals (scores will not carry over). The top-12 from the semis advance to the finals (those scores will carry over). The synchro events will be finals only. In one-meter, the top eight divers will advance to the finals (no semis, scores do not carry over).
