Feb. 4, 2010

TEMPE – William Henry (Trotwood, Ohio) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Arizona State University where he will continue his education and athletic career with the Sun Devil track & field program, ASU Assistant Coach Ronnie Williams announced today. A senior at Trotwood-Madison High School in Trotwood, Ohio, Henry will join the Sun Devil sprinters in time for the 2011 season after enrolling at ASU this coming fall.

“William has had a great high school career in Ohio and we are excited to bring him West,” Williams, ASU men’s sprints coach, said. “He has run on some great relays and be a mainstay as one of the better 400m runners in the country. He will be a great addition to the Sun Devil 400m and 4x400m relays for the next four years.”

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Sun Devil family,” Henry said. “I have always wanted to be a part of a well rounded team. I have worked very hard to get where I am and will continue to work hard in the future. I am very excited to get to Arizona State and do great things.”

Henry enters his senior season as one of the top long sprinters in the state of Ohio as he returns from a season in which he ran 47.21, the fifth-best time in the nation returning this season, and anchored the 4x400m relay that broke the state record for the second year in a row. That same relay, which ran 3:13.32, turned in the fourth-best time in the nation in 2009 and captured its third state title in a row withe Henry on all three squads.

Individually, Henry’s time of 47.21 to win the district championships was the 24th-fastest in the nation last year and propelled him to an eventual fourth-place finish at the state meet where he also placed 12th in the 200m dash and anchored the relay to victory. As a sophomore, he finished third at the state meet in the 400m event before helping the relay run 3:13.46 to break the state record of 3:13.57. Henry also has posted a personal best time of 21.70 in the 200m.
