Kevin Rhoderick Named A Second Team Preseason All-American By Baseball America

Feb. 5, 2010

DURHAM, N.C. - Oregon State junior closer Kevin Rhoderick has been named to Baseball America's Preseason All-America Second Team, it was announced Friday.

It is the third preseason honor for Rhoderick, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz. In late December, he was named to Louisville Slugger's Preseason All-America Third Team. Last week, he was name to the NCBWA's Preseason Watch List for the Stopper of the Year award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate closer.

Through two seasons at Oregon State, Rhoderick has 21 saves, which is second-most in school history, trailing only Kevin Gunderson's (2004-06) 37.

Last season, Rhoderick finished with a 3-3 record and nine saves. That followed his freshman campaign, in which he was named a Freshman All-American after going 0-1 with a 2.39 earned run average and 12 saves.

In two seasons, and 43 appearances, he has allowed just two extra base hits - a double and a home run - while opponents have batted just .187 against him. He has 65 strikeouts in 50 innings.

Rhoderick's honor Friday caps a big week for the Beavers. OSU was selected as the No. 2 team of the 2000s by Baseball America on Thursday, while Pat Casey was named the top head coach of the decade and Jacoby Ellsbury was selected as one of the three-best outfielders.

Earlier this week, single-game tickets went on sale. Single-game tickets for the 2010 season are $20 for reserved and $10 for outfield seats located beyond the right-field fence. To purchase single-game tickets, visit, call 1-800-GOBEAVS or they can be bought in person at the ticket office at legendary Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers will open the 2010 season on Feb. 19 when starting a four-game series at Hawaii. Make sure to visit for more information on the Beavers as the season draws closer.
