Krug Fourth in Semifinals of Three-Meter, Advances to Finals

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- Stanford alumnae Cassidy Krug finished fourth in the semifinals and will compete for three-meter championship on Sunday with a chance to make the U.S. Diving Team at the FINA World Cup and Diving Grand Prix.
Krug's score of 337.15 was fourth at the U.S. Winter Nationals, behind Olympian Christina Loukas (371.45), Duke's Abby Johnston (366.90) and Olympian Kelci Bryant (364.05) in a tightly contested three woman race for the top spot.
Krug's second dive, a forward 3 1/2 somersault pike scored 82.15 points, thanks to four 9.0's. She also had a tally of 70.50 on her final dive, a forward 2 1/2 somersault twist, paced by four 8.0's from the judges.
Krug, the 2007 NCAA Diver of the Year, had the top quarterfinal score at 299.00. In the quarters, she scored a 69.00 with a back 2 1/2 somersault pike paced by three 8.0's and had scores of 63.00, 62.00 and 60.00 en route to the top quarterfinal tally. Krug also won the three-meter preliminaries to open up and qualify for the main draw on Monday.
Fellow Cardinal affiliated divers, Stephanie Phipps and Carmen Stellar, did not advance to the semifinals. Phipps, an incoming recruit, was 25th with a score of 226.65, while Stellar was 31st with a tally of 192.55.
The top 18 divers in the three-meter and platform quarterfinals advance to the semifinals (scores will not carry over). The top-12 from the semis advance to the finals (those scores will carry over). The synchro events will be finals only. In one-meter, the top eight divers will advance to the finals (no semis, scores do not carry over).
