Buffs Finish Strong At New Mexico Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- University of Colorado junior Alex Von Hagen led the Buffs at the New Mexico Classic on Saturday with a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon.
Von Hagen recorded 5,042 points in the heptathlon and his score was the third best ever in CU's history. Von Hagen edged out teammate Adam Salzmann (4,877) for the best finish on the team as Salzmann finished with a seventh-place finish.
Salzmann took home top honors in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 43.39 seconds. Von Hagen (2:44.06) and Eddie Taylor (2:46.23) had strong showings as well as they finished third and fourth, respectively.
Trey Mullen led the Buffalo throwers with a tenth-place finish in the weight throw, recording a toss of 53 feet, 4.5 inches. Patrick Bachmann (52-00.00) and Dane Chobanian (50-08.75) also had strong showings as they finished 13th and 14th, respectively, in the event. Niklas Cederstrom placed 19th in the weight throw (45-08.50) and 26th in the men's shot put to round out a solid showing this weekend.
On the women's side, Kaity Kark led the female throwers with a 12th-place finish in the shot put (43-06.75) and a 15th-place finish in the weight throw (49-00.25). Chynna McCall had a strong showing as well. She finished with a 13th place-finish in the weight throw (49-03) and a 17th-place finish in the shot put (41-01.75).
