Post game quotes: Feb. 6 vs UCLA
Feb. 6, 2010
Head Coach Joanne Boyle
'I am disappointed in our execution, our offensive execution, and in our toughness. I think we got out-toughed. I think that was the biggest thing. I thought we did a good job defensively. They only scored 43 points. Offensively, I felt we were scared. We didn't want the responsibility. We had players hide. We had players not show up. We got out-toughed. We had balls ripped out of our hands. We got beat on the boards. We got manhandled. I give credit to UCLA, for having a really tough night the other night and coming in and changing that. We (the players) want to play against teams that we match up well against. It is a little harder to play against teams that don't necessarily match up against. You have to decide to play harder. We just didn't show up, offensively.'
'Maybe we should have pressed a little earlier. Our defense was good. But when people are trapping you and doing different things, you just have to move the ball. Make shots. You have to get post players who want the ball on the block. And deep seals. We didn't have anyone who wanted to be big and be a presence. That makes you play back on your heels.'
'UCLA is a different fit. They are a physical team. USC is more of a finesse team. So we can handle that. UCLA is physical, tough and athletic. You have to change your mindset when you play them.'
'We needed to move the ball, flash hard to the high post, and get Lexi out of those trapping situations, but we dribbled, and jogged to spots. UCLA wouldn't let us run any of our stuff. They are a good team and good teams are going to do that, so you need to exploit them other ways. Make them pay for pressing. Make them pay for trapping. We didn't do that.'
