Feb. 6, 2010
Sophomore Harrison Jones dominated the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards while freshman Clement Lefert and senior Zoltan Povazsay finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle, respectively, in USC's 174-125 loss to Stanford on Saturday (Feb. 6) in Los Angeles.
On an overcast day with intermittent rain showers, the Trojans also won the 200-yard Medley Relay. The team of freshmen Alex Lendrum and Clement Lefert joining junior Dillon Connolly and sophomore Jeff Daniels finished with a time of 1:29.38. Connolly also won the 100- yard breaststroke with a time of 55.19, finishing just .16 faster than the second-place finisher.
Jones' victories on the boards took place at a competition last week when both USC men's and women's diving squads faced off against Cal and Stanford. He recorded scores of 428.17 and 378.90 on the 3-meter and 1-meter, respectively.
Lefert finished the 100-yard butterfly in 48.59, winning by more than a second and a half, while Povazsay wrapped up the 200-yard freestyle in 1:36.44.
The Pac-10 Diving Championships, held in Federal Way, Wash., begin Feb. 25, while the Swimming Championships in Long Beach, Calif. begin March 3.
